Ndrec Ndue Gjoka, education activist, martyr, Teacher of the People, was killed in the line of duty. He was born in Bisak of Mirdita. After completing the Normal School of Elbasan (1939), he served as a teacher in Linaj of Shkodra, in Istog (Zllakuqan of Peja). He participated in the National Liberation Anti-Fascist Movement. After liberation, he was appointed head teacher and then head of education in Mirdita district. On his initiative, the National Liberation Council of the district, on 13.12.1944, decided to open 51 schools and 47 courses against illiteracy. Within three months the number of students reached 2641, from 201 students at the time of the kingdom. Going from village to village, Ndrec Ndue Gjoka secured school premises in the houses of the villagers. For the first time in the history of the province, in the new schools girls and women from Mirdita also learned to read and write. Ndrec Ndue Gjoka also developed a wide political activity as a member of the presidency of the Democratic Front of Mirdita. He universally forgave his brother’s blood and headed the blood reconciliation commission in the province. (In the photo: Ndrec Ndue Gjoka )
