The Albanian Muslim Community was founded at the First Albanian Muslim Congress. The Congress held its work in Tirana, in the hall of the “Djelmnia Dibrane” society, whose chairman was the patriot Dervish Hima. 36 delegates participated in the Congress, seven of whom were MPs. The congress took place on February 24 – March 12, 1923, where important decisions were made for the organization of islamic religious life for all Albanian lands, the establishment of a unique madrasah, which was called “Medreseja e Naltë” and several magazines, such as “Zani i Naltë” (in two periods 1923-1939 and 2012 and continuing and today), “Kultura islame” (1939-1945), “Njeriu” (1942-1944), “Drita islame” (1992, which continues and today) etc. Today, the Muslim Community of Albania has its institutions throughout the country, where in each district, it has its branches, muftis, mosques and educational institutions, madrassas, and “Beder” University, as the highest educational institution.
