On April 1, 2009, Albania joined NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), a political-military organization of countries from Europe and North America. This membership is one of the most significant events not only for Albania but for the entire Albanian nation. Currently, Albania views its security as inextricably linked to the security of the territory covered by the provisions of the North Atlantic Treaty. Given NATO’s fundamental role in the collective security of allied territory, Albania actively supports the unity of the Alliance and the essential importance of the Transatlantic link, ensuring that NATO remains a pillar of stability for future generations. Albania is part of NATO’s unwavering commitment to do whatever is necessary to secure and protect all allied countries. Presently, Albanian troops are part of thousands of NATO personnel serving in operations and missions in the Baltic States, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, and Kosovo. Additionally, Albania contributes to enhancing the readiness of allied forces and modernizing military command structures. Albania continues to be a strong supporter of the Alliance’s enlargement policy. In recent years, the accession of our neighbors to NATO has been clear evidence of the realization of this policy, which serves to strengthen peace, security, and stability in the region.
