Resignation of Ramiz Alia

Lexo ngjarje:

On April 3, 1992, Ramiz Alia resigned from the post of President of the former Socialist People’s Republic of Albania, thus ending his career in politics. As a result of this act of resignation, Alia stands out as the first high-ranking official of the communist regime to emerge from a pluralistic parliament, who agreed to leave office through democratic elections. His duty passed to the leader of the main opposition force in the early elections of March 22, Sali Berisha. In the spring of 1985, Alia was elected as the successor of the dictator Enver Hoxha. In this capacity, on December 12, 1990, he signed the law allowing political parties and associations to be created. Ramiz Alia was the President of Albania in 1991-1992, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party of Labor of Albania (1986-1991), Chairman of the Democratic Front of Albania (1985-1998), participant of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War, Hero of Socialist Work.
