On April 4, 1954, in the terrible prison of Burrel, died of a heart attack, Father Karl Serreqi, martyr of the Catholic Church. He was born in Shkodër. He studied theology at the College of Pescia (Italy). He was ordained a priest in Torricchio, Pescia on June 29, 1936. He was a parish priest in Curraj i Epërm (1937–1939), Berishë (1939–1943) and Rajë (1943–1946) in the Tropoja area. He was arrested in Rajë, on October 9, 1946. He was imprisoned in Shën Gjergj of Dukagjini and then in Shkodër. On January 18, 1947, he was sentenced to death by hanging. On February 24, 1947, his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment and forced labor in Maliq in Korça, and later in the terrible Burrel prison, where he died of a heart attack.
