On April 7, 1939 , the day of the Italian fascist aggression against Albania, Hamit Dollani (1903-1939), martyr of the armed resistance against the fascist aggression, fought heroically in the port of Durrës and fell defending the homeland. He was born in the village of Jançë, one of the most remote villages of Sulova in Gramsh. He spent his childhood in complete poverty. In 1923, he was a soldier. In 1924, the Shkodra garrison and his comrades marched towards Tirana to become part of the June Democratic Revolution in support of Fan Noli. In 1928, he was recruited into the army as a reservist in a course in the city of Vlora, where he met and became friends with Mujo Ulqinaku. After this, in 1931, he was appointed as a constable. He was transferred to a constabulary post in Bërzhitë, Tirana. From Bërzhitë, he set off with a machine gun and the necessary ammunition to take his position in Durrës in April 1939, where Hamiti met his comrade Mujo Ulqinaku again. The municipalities of Durrës and Gramshi have declared him “Citizen of Honor” with the motivation “For patriotism and sublime sacrifice in the anti-fascist resistance of April 7, 1939”. Also, he holds the title “Gratitude of the city” from the Municipality and the “Durrësi” association, while the ring road of the city of Gramshi is named “Hamit Dollani”. The municipality of Tunjë has declared him “Honor of the municipality” and a commemorative plaque has been placed in his honor in the village of Katërlis. He was awarded the Medal of Valor.
