Mitro Xhani, participant of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War, Hero of the People, was killed in the war against the German Nazis and their collaborators, in Dukaj of Tepelena. He was born in Piqeras, Saranda, in 1916. During his mandatory military service (1942), he connected with communist elements. He joined the partisan ranks in Peza (March, 1942) and then went to his homeland (August, 1942), where he worked for the organization of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War. Partisan in the “Hajredin Tremishti” detachment since its formation (1942). Member of the Albanian Communist Party, in 1942. Deputy battalion commissar in the VI Assault Brigade (1944) participated in many battles. (In the photo: Mitro Xhani)
