Jashar Erebara

Jashar Erebera (1872–1953), revivalist, education activist, publicist, passed away. He was born in Dibër, where he received his first lessons. He continued his education in Dibër, in Bitola and at the “Drita” Normal School in Bucharest. Together with Dervish Hima, they published the notebook “Indipendenta Albanie” ( Independence of Albania ), with the motto “Albania for the Albanians”. Within the “Drita” society, he contributed to publishing and distributing Albanian books among Albanians. In 1902-1905 he published the newspaper “Albanija” in Belgrade, while in 1911-1912 he published the newspaper “Shkupi” in Skopje, through which he affirmed the Albanian cause. Also, he founded the Albanian club in Kumanovo (1909), opened a night school in this city and another in Upper Reka. During the years 1924-1939 he was a deputy in the Albanian parliament, he participated in the revolutionary committees in the Balkans, aiming to national unity and the protection of Albanian national interests.(In the photo: Jashar Erebera)
