Thousands of Albanians set sail for Italy in search of a better life. Citizens from all four corners of the country, suffering and impoverished, defied security measures and their fears to board the cargo ship “Vlora,” which was anchored in the port of Durrës. People climbed aboard using ropes, packing themselves into the overcrowded vessel and standing wherever they could find space. Their goal was clear: they sought freedom in Italy.
