Sotir Ferrara

Sotir Ferrara, a personality of the clergy and Arbëresh culture, passed away. He was born in the village of Hora of Arbëreshë (it. Piana degli Albanesi), province of Palermo (Sicily), in 1937. He became a priest on November 19, 1960. He was a professor of mathematics and scientific subjects, as well as the director of the Byzantine choir of the Cathedral of St. Miter, which was composed of the Arberesh of Sicily. Sotir Ferrara is considered “the master of the Byzantine liturgy of the Arbëresh tradition”, as he influenced the spiritual and social unity of the Arbëresh residents during his 25 years of work as despot (bishop) of the Eparchy of Hora of Arbëresh.
