Emin Duraku

Emin Duraku, member of the National Liberation Anti-Fascist Movement, Hero of the People, passed away in Prizren hospital. He was born in Gjakovë, in 1918. He attended primary school in Gjakovë. In 1932 he emigrated to Albania, settled in Tirana and then in Shkodër. Due to his political activity, he was expelled from the high school in Tirana (1935) and continued his studies in Shkodër. As a communist activist, in 1938 the Tirana court sentenced him to three years in prison. In April 1939, he escaped from prison and continued his illegal activity in Shkodër. In July 1939, he returned to Gjakovë, where he made his first contacts with the communists of Kosovo. He returned to Shkodër and organized an anti-fascist demonstration on November 28, 1939. After the arrest, he was sent to the island of Vetoteno in Italy. In the fall of 1941, after an amnesty, he returned to Tirana. He made contact with communist activists and was sent to Gjakovë, with the task of spreading communist ideas. In the February 1942 consultation of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia for Kosovo and Metohija (Dukagjin) he delivered the main report. After being co-opted in the Bureau of the Provincial Committee of the Yugoslav Communist Party, on November 28, 1942, in the village of Grackë near Lipjan, he was placed in a colony house, where he was surrounded and after a resistance he was seriously injured.
