Sotir Papahristo was born in the village of Dhëmbell in Devoll (now in Greece). He was a classical philologist, educational activist, author of pedagogical works, director of educational institutions, translator, and a candidate of philological sciences, honored as a “Teacher of Merit.” After completing high school in Korçë, he continued his higher education in classical philology at the University of Athens. After completing his studies, he served as a professor of ancient Greek language and literature at the high school in Korçë; professor and administrative director of the National Lyceum of Korçë (1927–1933); director of the Women’s Institute “Nana Mbretneshe” (“Queen Mother”)(1933–1939); teacher at the Pedagogical High School “17 Nëntori” (“17 November”) in Tirana (1944–1947); translator at the publishing house “Naim Frashëri” and scientific employee at the Institute of Sciences and the Institute of History and Linguistics (1948–1968). He published pedagogical textbooks: “Qeverimi i fëmijëve në shkollë” (“Governance of children in school”) (Korçë, 1928); “Mësime shembullore” (“Exemplary lessons”) (Korçë, 1930); “Hartime dhe ushtrime në shkollat fillore e të mesme” (“Compositions and exercises in primary and secondary schools”) (Korçë, 1936). He prepared school texts: “Gramatika e greqishtes se vjetër” (“Ancient Greek Grammar”)(I, 1938; II, 1940) and “Sintaksa e greqishtes së vjetër” (“Ancient Greek Syntax”)(1942). He translated and adapted into Albanian several educational and pedagogical works, as well as a variety of literary works by classical Greek authors, such as Aeschylus, Sophocles, Aristophanes, Aristotle, Plutarch, etc. He passed away in 1979.
