Alajdin Demiri, a diplomat, political analyst, and university professor, was born in Tetovo. From 1973 to 1977, he studied sociology in Sarajevo. From 1977 until 1978, he worked as a journalist at the Macedonian Radio Television (now North Macedonia), in the Albanian-language department. From 1978 to 1983 and from 1983 to 1988, he was a sociology and philosophy professor at a high school in Tetovo, and later worked at the city library. During the years 1990–1995, Alajdin Demiri studied French in Lausanne, Switzerland, returning in 1995 and becoming involved in politics within the framework of the Party for Democratic Prosperity. In 1997, he was elected mayor of Tetovo municipality, while in 1998 he was sentenced to two years in prison for placing the national flag in front of the Tetovo municipality, a well-known event that occurred simultaneously with the municipality of Gostivar, which ended with brutal police violence of the time, resulting in casualties and arrests. The European Parliament demanded his release, and he was released under an Amnesty Law. Later, in the late 1990s, he was appointed ambassador of North Macedonia to Switzerland. Upon his return, he worked as a university professor at the Southeast European University in Tetovo. He passed away in 2019. (In the photo: Alajdin Demiri)
