Abdurrahim Buza

Abdurrahim Buza, an Albanian painter, and graphic artist of the 20th century was born in Skopje. He pursued higher studies in monumental painting in Florence (1929–1933). Buza, along with the Italian Mario Ridola, the painter Andrea Thanasi (Kushi), the sculptor Oddise Paskali, and Lasgush Poradeci, were the first educators at the School of Drawing in Tirana. In Buza’s artistic career, cycles with historical themes, its folk heroes, folk games, as well as themes of Albanian weddings and legends, hold a significant place. His paintings influenced the modernization of Albanian art in the 20th century. He was honored with the titles “Teacher of the People,” “Meritorious Painter,” and “Painter of the People.” He passed away in Tirana in 1986. (In the photo: Abdurrahim Buza)
