Afrim Zhitia, political activist of the illegal movement, martyr, was born in the village of Llugë in Podujeva. He completed his primary education in his hometown, while he completed secondary school in Prishtina. As a student of the Technical High School in Prishtina, in 1982 he joined the illegal organization National Liberation Front of Kosova. As a member of the illegal movement, he distributed tracts and posters, which demanded the rights of Albanians and denounced the colonial position of Kosova in Serbia and the former Yugoslavia. Due to the wide activity, the group of Afrim Zhitia was followed step by step by the authorities. In the summer of 1984, the group was discovered and the members were imprisoned. In the trial held for this group, Afrim Zhitia was sentenced to four years in prison. After being released from prison, he intensified his organizational activity and expanded his activity against the Yugoslav state and government.
