Agim Krajka, composer and accordionist, “Merited Artist”, passed away. He was born in Kavajë, in 1937. In Kavajë, he learned the accordion at a young age, with which he later became very popular. In the years 1963-1968, he completed his higher studies in composition at the State Conservatory of Tirana, being at the same time the accordionist of the State Ensemble of Folk Songs and Dances, where he worked until 1991. As the leader of the instrumental formation of that institution, he composed many songs and folk dances, composed music in folk styles, as well as film music and various accordion pieces. With songs like “Lemza” (“Hiccough”), “Djaloshi dhe shiu” (The boy and the rain”), “Ne jemi tre” (“We are three“) etc., he represented the most progressive tendencies for the emancipation of Albanian light music in the years 1960-1980. Being a virtuoso instrumentalist, he performed a large number of concerts in Albania and Kosova and in the tours organized by the State Ensemble of Folk Songs and Dances abroad (China, Greece, Italy, Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, USA, Australia, Canada etc.). Several times winner of prizes in the annual song festivals in Albanian Radio Television. In the years 1991-2006 he stayed in the United States of America. (In the photo: Agim Krajka)
