Berit Becker (Backer), norwegian researcher in the field of social anthropology, passed away. She was born in Norway in 1947. Her visit to Albania in 1969 left a special impression on her and she decided to devote herself to the research in the social anthropology of Albanians. Stayed in Kosova (Isniq) in 1975, where she collected data and made observations around the country for the study “Changing Household Organization among the Albanians of Kosova”, which was published posthumously with the title “Behind Stone Walls: Changing Household Organization among the Albanians of Kosova” (Pejë, 2003). Berit Beker became a supporter and defender of Albanian demands, especially after the 1981 demonstrations, engaging in international organizations, such as Amnesty International and the Helsinki Committee, as well as preparing special materials for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Immigration and Ministry of Justice of Norway. For her dense and fruitful activity in support of Albanians and Albania, Berit Becker was granted the Albanian citizenship (1992). (In the photo: Berit Beker with traditional Dukagjini attire, 1976.)
