The “Second World War” (1939-1945) began, with the attack of Hitler’s Germany against Poland. In response to this act, England and France declared war on Germany. But precursors to World War II were the armed aggressions undertaken in the 1930s by militaristic Japan against China, fascist Italy against Ethiopia and Albania, and Nazi Germany against Austria and Czechoslovakia. In the process of development of World War II, combat actions were extended to 40 countries and in all oceans, as well as in most of the seas of the terrestrial globe. 110 million fighters were included in the ranks of the fighting armies and the anti-fascist resistance. The Anti-Fascist Coalition, which was created during the war, included 50 countries from all continents, representing the European and World Anti-Fascist Resistance. At the head of this coalition were: England, USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) and USA (United States of America). The Anti-Fascist Coalition was the largest alliance that world history has known. In World War II humanity suffered great losses. The number of people killed at the end of the war reached 50 million people. Over 12 million people lost their lives in concentration and extermination camps. The Albanian people, united in the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War, lined up from the beginning in the World Anti-Fascist Alliance alongside the great allies: England, the USSR and the USA. The latter, with the official declarations of December 1942, officially recognized the Albanian people as participants in this alliance.
