Vehbi Rexhepi

Vehbi Rexhepi, political activist, was born in Gjilan. He attended elementary school and public civic school in his hometown, while he attended vocational high school “Realka” in Skopje, and the Higher Political School in Belgrade. In May 1943, he was arrested in Tirana and sentenced to two and a half years in prison, from which he was released only after the capitulation of Italy (September 10, 1943). He was among the founders of the Anti-Fascist Youth Organization of Gjilan. Part of the anti-fascist activity was carried out in Sanjak. In Prijepole, he was imprisoned twice by the Gestapo. After the liberation of Prijepole, he joined the units of the National Liberation Army of Yugoslavia, where he stayed until March 1945. Then he returned to Gjilan, where he performed numerous tasks with responsibility, until October 1950, when he was imprisoned and sent to the prison of Otoku’s goal. After returning from Goli Otoku, in 1953 he moved to Skopje, where he worked as a photographer. Later he returns to Pristina and opens a private photography studio. He passed away in Pristina, in 1997. (In the photo: Vehbi Rexhepi)
