On the mountain of Golem (Gjirokastër), Themo Vasi, activist of the communist movement, participant of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War, Hero of the People, was killed in the war against the German Nazis. He was born in Nivan in Zagoria (Gjirokastër), in 1915. At the high school of Gjirokastra and later at that of Tirana, he embraced communist ideas. Took part in anti-fascist demonstrations (1939–1940). Member of the Albanian Communist Party since its foundation. He was elected political secretary of the Communist Youth for the Durrës district (February 1942). He propagated the ideas of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War among the workers of Durres, the farmers of Myzeqe and the villagers of Gjirokastra. With the formation of the “Koto Hoxhi” detachment, its commissar was appointed (1942) and later battalion commissar (1943). He was killed in the war in 1943. (In the photo: Themo Vasi)
