In Borgo Erizzo (part of Zara, Croatia), the Albanian newspaper “Zani i Scyptarit” was published. The basic purpose of this newspaper was to convey the spirit of the Albanian National Renaissance, which characterized all the press that was published in the diaspora. We remember that, from the first newspaper published in 1848 to 1912, nearly 90 newspapers and magazines were published wherever there were old and new Albanian settlements. The Arbëresh people of Italy undoubtedly hold the first place in this cultural movement of the press. In Zare, Croatia, where the Albanian community lives, there has been rich literary activity in recent centuries and many prominent Albanian personalities have published there as well. The Albanian settlements were established in the 18th century, mainly displaced from the surroundings of Shkodra and Ulcinj. Preserving the written Albanian language has been a great challenge for this community. (Pictured: Map of the Kingdom of Dalmatia.)
