Z<\/span>ef <\/span>Sere<\/span>mbe<\/span> (Giuseppe, 1843–1901), Arbëresh lyric poet, was born in <\/span>Strigar<\/span> in Cosen<\/span>z<\/span>a (Italy). He studied at the college of Saint Adrian (Calabria), where he had Jeronim de Rada as his teacher. In 1883, he published the volume of poems in <\/span>Italian<\/span><\/span>“Poesie<\/span> Italiane e <\/span>c<\/span>ant<\/span>i<\/span> originali<\/span> tradotti<\/span> dell <\/span>albanese<\/span>” (“Italian poems and original songs translated from Albanian”)<\/span><\/span>. Many manuscripts of <\/span>Serembe<\/span> have been lost (among them a long poem and <\/span>possibly some<\/span> plays). The essence of <\/span>Serembe’s<\/span> creativity is the revolt against any form of national or social oppression as a simple man of the people. This also defined his character. After his death, his nephew, Cosmo <\/span>Serembe<\/span>, published part of his poetic creations in the collection <\/span><\/span>“<\/span>Vjersha<\/span>” (“Poems”)<\/span><\/span> (1926). <\/span>Serembe<\/span> extensively studied lyrics with diverse themes, creating patriotic, philosophical, social, and love lyrics. In the patriotic poems, <\/span>called<\/span> in open war against the Ottoman conqueror. <\/span>Serembe’s<\/span> poetry is a poem of colors and strong lights. His favorite figures are <\/span>ant<\/span>itheses, <\/span>metaphors<\/span> and symbols. <\/span>Z<\/span>ef <\/span>Sere<\/span>mbe<\/span> continued the tradition of influence from folk poetry. <\/span><\/span>(In the photo: <\/span>Z<\/span>ef <\/span>Sere<\/span>mbe<\/span>)<\/span><\/span><\/em> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
