La<\/span>z<\/span>ër<\/span> Mjeda<\/span> (1869–1935), catholic clergyman, founder of the cultural society “<\/span>Agimi<\/span>” and defender of the national cause, was born in Shkodër. On August 6, 1891, he was ordained a priest in Shkodër and served as parish priest in Plan, Pog e <\/span>Mgullë<\/span>, in Pult. On January 20, 1901, he was ordained bishop of Sapa and was among the youngest in terms of age. As a bishop, he built many church structures, as well as created and built schools, such as: in <\/span>Dajç<\/span>, where his brother, Dom Ndre <\/span>Mjeda<\/span>, who administered that church parish, taught for a while; then the school of <\/span>Hajmel<\/span> of <\/span>Iballa<\/span>. Together with his brother Dom Ndreu, he created the Literary Society “<\/span>Agimi<\/span>” which published the school textbooks of that time. In 1909, he was appointed archbishop of Skopje, opened many schools in the villages, and worked to flourish the religion and culture of that province. During his service in Skopje and <\/span>Pri<\/span>z<\/span>ren<\/span>, <\/span>La<\/span>z<\/span>ër<\/span> Mjeda<\/span> witnessed<\/span> Serbian crimes against Albanians and sent a detailed report to the Vatican. <\/span><\/span>(In the photo: <\/span>La<\/span>z<\/span>ër<\/span> Mjeda<\/span>)<\/span><\/span><\/em> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
