In a cave in Dragobia, where he had taken shelter during the winter, Bajram Curri, a prominent figure of the national movement during the Renaissance period, one of the political and military leaders of the anti-Ottoman uprisings and the struggle for the national unification and liberation of the country, Hero of the People, was surrounded and killed. He was born in Gjakova. He was imbued with the ideas of the Albanian League of Prizren (1878), he was put in charge of the armed resistance in Kosova, he was one of the organizers of the Albanian League of Peja (1899-1900 ) and of its activity for the autonomy of Albania, as well as for the protection of the territorial integrity of the country. He helped in the establishment of Albanian clubs and schools in Kosova, he was the vice-president of the club “Bashkimi” in Skopje from 1908, he supported the call of the Congress of Manastir in 1908 and defended the alphabet of the Albanian language established in that Congress. He was the leader of the military actions during the Kosova Uprising of the 1910s. At the head of the insurgent forces, he strongly resisted the Ottoman armies in Qafa e Morin\u00ebs (Tropoj\u00eb). He was one of the leaders and organizers of the General Anti-Ottoman Uprising of 1912. In May 1912, he participated in the military actions of the general uprising, where he stood out as a talented popular commander. With the insurgent forces, he defeated the Ottoman armies in the Qafa e Prushit and in other battles in Dukagjin Plain. Together with Hasan Prishtina, Isa Boletini and Idriz Seferi, at the head of the insurgent forces, entered Skopje, freeing the entire province of Kosova from the Ottoman yoke (August 1912). After 1912, he fought in Kosova for its protection from the Serbian invaders. Bajram Curri did not agree with the decisions of the London Conference in 1913, which separated Kosova and other eastern and southern territories from the Albanian state. He was one of the organizers of the Anti-Serbian Uprising of September 1913 for the liberation of Kosova and other Albanian territories from Serbian-Montenegro repression and their union with the Independent Albania. In the Congress of Lushnja (1920) he was elected a member of the National Council, which appointed him minister without portfolio in the government of Sulejman Delvina. In December 1921, he was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces in the government of Hasan Prishtina. He helped the National Liberation Movement (Ka\u00e7ake) in Kosova, created a free zone in the Highlands of Gjakova (Tropoj\u00eb), cooperated with Azem Galica’s detachment, which fought in Kosova for the national liberation. He was among the main leaders of the democratic forces in Albania, who defeated the government parties and paved the way for the victory of the Democratic Revolution of June 1924. In the fall of 1924, he went to Geneva to present to the League of Nations the issue of the rights of the Albanian population in Kosova, who suffered under the Serbian rule. He continued his resistance against Ahmet Zogu’s regime even after the suppression of the Democratic Revolution of June 1924.
