He started his education in his hometown, which he then continued in Vlora, Kavaj\u00eb, Berat, following his father&#8217;s transfers as a salt storekeeper. He attended the National Lyceum (French) of Kor\u00e7a and then the Normal School of Elbasan, which he interrupted because of the war. He participated in the National Liberation Anti-Fascist Movement as a member of the guerrilla unit of Fier, then a partisan and editor of the anti-fascist newspaper &#8220;P\u00ebrpjekja e liris\u00eb&#8221; (Vlor\u00eb). His first literary creations are from this time. After the liberation, he finished high school in Tirana and completed his higher studies in French literature at the University of Sofia (1951). He started working in the language and literature section at the Institute of Sciences, but then moved to the newspaper \u201cZ\u00ebri i rinis\u00eb\u201d and lecturer at the Higher Pedagogical Institute and the Faculty of History and Philology of the University of Tirana, since its establishment . By the end of the 60s he was a freelance writer. Jakov Xoxa began the creation of a pentology of novels, through which Albanian life would be artistically contextualized in the complexity of its manifestations from the 1930s to contemporary times. The first and most prominent attempt of this project, among the three that Jakov Xoxa was able to realize, <i>&#8220;Lumi i vdekur&#8221; <\/i>(<i>\u201cDead River\u201d<\/i>) in four volumes (1961, 1965, 1967, 1974), was an immediate success and was ranked by the critics of the time among the greatest works of Albanian literature. Appreciated as a social, psychological and ethical novel, &#8220;Lumi i vdekur&#8221; (<i>\u201cDead River\u201d<\/i>), through its subject, which unfolds in the years 1938-1939 around the life ordeal of the families from Myzeqe and the Kosovar refugee families, illuminates with a shocking realism the drama of the peasantry at that time. Author of some of the most voluminous works of Albanian literature, Jakov Xoxa completed its typology with the realistic novel with a wide epic scope. Equipped with a great narrative power, Jakov Xoxa has the ability to grab and keep the reader&#8217;s attention alive and ensure his conviction in the truth of what he says. With special skills in character modeling, he has been able to create a whole gallery of outstanding characters. Jakov Xoxa has been a delegate to the Congress of Spelling of the Albanian Language, he has received the Republic Award of the first degree and the &#8220;Honour of the Nation&#8221; Order.
