Kristaq Rama, a sculptor and People’s Sculptor, was born in Durr\u00ebs. He completed his education at the “Jordan Misja” Artistic Lyceum and graduated from the “I. E. Repin” Institute of the Academy of Arts in Leningrad, specializing in sculpture (1954\u20131960). He began his career as an arts inspector at the Ministry of Education (1960\u20131962) and later served as director of the National Gallery of Arts (1962\u20131966) and director of the department at the Ministry of Culture and Education (1966\u20131970); from 1970 onwards, he devoted himself entirely to sculpture. He was a teacher and head of the Monumental Sculpture Workshop at the Institute of Fine Arts. He exhibited his first wooden bust “Mal\u00ebsori\u201d (Highlander) in 1959. He created around 200 sculptures, including, with co-authors: “P\u00ebrmendorja e Luft\u00ebs s\u00eb Vlor\u00ebs\u201d (Memorial of the Vlora War) (Vlora, 1970), “Monumenti i Pavar\u00ebsis\u00eb\u201d (Monument of Independence) (Vlora, 1972), “N\u00ebn\u00eb Shqip\u00ebri\u201d (Mother Albania) (National Martyrs Cemetery, 1972), Monumental relief on the facade of the Prime Minister’s office (1974), “Enver Hoxha” (former “Enver Hoxha” Museum, 1988). Other works include: “Shote Galica” (Kuk\u00ebs, 1969), “Kushtrimtari\u201d (The Warrior) (Martyrs Cemetery, Tropoja), “Komandanti Bato\u201d (Commander Bato) (National Historical Museum, 1981), “Avni Rustemi” (Vlora), etc. After 1990, he created works with an intimate character, figures in motion, nudes, portraits, etc. Kristaq Rama was awarded the Honorary Prize at the Alexandria Biennale for the sculpture “Marinari\u201d (Sailor) (1963). He was also known as a volleyball player and held the title of “Sports Master” (1954). He served as a deputy in the People’s Assembly (1970\u20131991) and as a member of the Presidium of the People’s Assembly (1986\u20131990). He passed away in Tirana in 1998.
