Drago Siliqi, poet and literary critic, was born in Tirana. At a young age, he was involved in the anti-fascist movement. In the years 1952-1957, he attended higher studies at the Institute of World Literature “Maxim Gorky” in Moscow. He was a journalist in the newspaper “Z\u00ebri i Populli” and then director of the “Naim Frash\u00ebri” publishing house. He lost his life in an air accident. Drago Siliq’s poetry is realistic, with sensitivity to social transformations in the post-war period. Drago Silic’s critical writings harmonize the objectivity of judgment with the tendency to notice and welcome the new literary phenomena of the time. In them, the works of many young creators have found appreciation and support, some of whom would be affirmed in the following years for the artistic innovations they brought to the literary process. As the director of the “Naim Frash\u00ebri” publishing house, he influenced the increase of literary publications and the translation of several classic works and masterpieces of world literature, activating and supporting a group of outstanding translators. Drago Silic’s poetic creativity is summarized in the volumes “When the Heart Speaks” (1970) and “Selected Poems for Children” (1976), while the critical writings are summarized in the volume “In Search of the New” (1969), which recognized several reprints.
