He pursued higher education in economics at Sofia University from 1949 to 1954. He worked as a journalist, educator, and freelance writer. Fatos Arapi began writing during his student years. He published poetic volumes such as “Shtigje poetike” (Poetic Paths, 1962), “Poema dhe vjersha” (Poems and Verses, 1966), “Drejt qindra shekujsh shkojmë” (Towards Centuries, 1977), “Antologji personale” (Personal Anthology, 2001), and others. Fatos Arapi drew inspiration from the spirit of folk poetry and its universal force, moving away from narrative and descriptive styles. In some of his works, particularly striking ones, Fatos Arapi evokes the heroism of the anti-fascist war years with hymnal notes. Over the years, his poetry became more metaphorical, aiming to penetrate the depths of consciousness and the secrets of the human spirit through elliptical verses, symbols, and allegories. Some motifs in his poetry reflect the tragedy of human life, speaking of a misty horizon where anxieties and uncertainties are felt. Fatos Arapi’s verse is a blend of classical meter with a free rhythm, creating an original sound. Prominent in Fatos Arapi’s oeuvre, alongside short lyrics, are the poems “Alarme të përgjakura” (Bloodstained Alarms, 1966), “Drashovica” (1961), and “Antiburokratike” (Anti-Bureaucratic, 1968). Fatos Arapi also ventured into novel writing with works like “Patat e egra” (Wild Geese, 1970), “Dikush më buzëqeshte” (Someone Smiled at Me, 1972), and novels “Dhjetor i shqetësuar” (December in Distress, 1970), “Shokët” (Friends, 1977), “Deti në mes” (Sea in Between, 1977). His poetry has been translated into foreign languages. Fatos Arapi published studies and essays on folklore (“Këngë të moçme shqiptare”, Ancient Albanian Songs, 1986), historical insights into the Balkans (“Çështja shqiptare dhe kriza ballkanike”, The Albanian Issue and the Balkan Crisis, 2001), poetry, including works on Lasgush Poradeci, etc. He also engaged in translations of Pablo Neruda, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Turkish poetry, etc. He passed away in 2018. (In the photo: Fatos Arapi)

Text: Albanian encyclopedic dictionary – Vol. 1 , Academy of Sciences of Albania, “Kristalina-KH”, Tirana, 2008, page 86-87.

Photo: © http://asa.edu.al/site/?p=5253

Graphic processing: AHCF

[15

post-7099","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-ditelindje
["GET
