Hasan Kaleshi, orientalist, professor, with a valuable contribution to the development of Albanian orientalism, passed away. He was born in S\u00ebrbica, K\u0451r\u00e7ova, in 1922. He attended sixth grade at the Great Madrasah in Skopje, while he received his high school diploma at the “Sami Frash\u00ebri” gymnasium in Pristina (1944). He completed his higher studies in oriental philology at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade (1951), where he also deepened his knowledge of the Arabic language. From 1952, he worked first as an assistant, and then as a docent of the Arabic language at the Department of Oriental Philology in Belgrade. He specialized in Turkology in Hamburg (1966\u20131967). During the years 1967-1970, he worked at the Albanological Institute of Pristina. In 1970 he was elected full professor at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Pristina; one of the founders of the branch of oriental studies (1973), which he directed until 1976, when he passed away. The scientific activity of Hasan Kalesh includes a very wide spectrum: Albananology, history, Arabic studies, Turkology, folklore, etc., and he collaborated in various scientific journals in the country and abroad.
