In Tirana, Abdi Toptani, an activist of the National Renaissance and the Independence period, passed away. He was born in Tirana in 1864. He completed primary school in his hometown and finished secondary school in Istanbul. From a young age, he came into contact with patriotic circles through Murat Toptani. He became a propagandist of national ideas and worked for the promotion of Albanian writing using the Latin alphabet. He was among the organizers of the armed uprising of the mountaineers of Sh\u00ebngjergji and Shupal against the violence of the Ottoman administration in 1902. He led the insurgent forces in the district of Kruja during the general anti-Ottoman uprising in 1912. That same year, in November, Abdi Toptani hosted Durr\u00ebs, accompanying the group headed by Ismail Qemal Vlora to Vlora, where he participated in the Declaration of Independence of Albania and was elected Minister of Finance in the First National Government. Abdi Toptani fought for the strengthening of the independent state and participated as a delegate of Tirana in the Congress of Lushnja in 1920, where he was elected a member of the Supreme Council. In 1922, he participated in the “March Movement” and supported Elez Isuf, Bajram Curri, and others in the fight against Ahmet Zogu. After the failure of the movement, he was sentenced to death.
