Ibrahim Temo, an activist of the National Renaissance, passed away in Mejidie, Romania. He was born in Struga in 1865, into a family originally from Mati. He completed his primary education in his hometown and pursued high school and medical studies in Istanbul. Temo was one of the initiators and activists of the “Young Turks” national movement against the despotic regime of Sultan Abdyl Hamit II. In 1889, along with three friends, he formed the first Young Turk committee in Istanbul, named “Union and Progress” (“Ittihad ve Terakki”). Due to his revolutionary activities, Ibrahim Temo was imprisoned and subsequently sentenced to death (in absentia) by the Ottoman government. Pursued by the sultan, he was forced to flee to Romania in 1895, where he continued to advocate for the Young Turks movement and especially for the Albanian National Movement. He became a prominent activist within Albanian patriotic societies in Romania, providing significant support in the struggle for Albania’s liberation from Ottoman rule. Temo participated in drafting petitions and memoranda sent to the Ottoman government and the Great Powers by Albanian societies in Romania and other exile communities between 1896 and 1906. These documents called for the autonomy of Albania and the preservation of the country’s territorial integrity amidst the threat of fragmentation. After the proclamation of the constitution in 1908, Temo opposed the denationalizing and anti-Albanian policies of the Young Turks, leading to conflicts with them. Following the Declaration of Independence, he defended the Albanian state and, along with other patriots from the Albanian colony in Romania, organized a series of protests to the Great Powers for the protection of the rights of the Albanian people and their lands against the ambitions of neighboring states. In 1914, he returned to Albania as a doctor, leading a sanitary team to combat malaria. As a representative of the Albanians in Romania, he vigorously defended the Albanian cause at the Peace Conference in Paris in 1919. (In the photo: Ibrahim Temo)<\/i><\/p>\n
