Ismail Rexhepi, professor, historian, long-term employee of the Archive of Kosovo and one of the best archivists, passed away. He was born in the village of Bresanë in Opojë (Kosovo), on November 3, 1947. He attended primary school in his hometown, while he continued his secondary education at the “Alaudin” madrasa in Pristina. In 1972, he graduated from the Higher Pedagogical School in Gjakova in the “history-geography” group. After finishing high school, he started working at the elementary school “Zenel Salihu” in the village of Bardh i Madh (former Bellaçevc) in Fushë Kosova. From November 13, 1973 to October 13, 1974, he performed military service, where he received the rank of sergeant. After military service, he continued teaching at the same school until November 6, 1978. In addition to his work as a teacher, he continued his studies in the history department at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Pristina, which he completed with high results, where he received the title “Professor of history”. He started working in the Archive of Kosovo in 1978, in the position as head of the service for the protection of archival material. He had a special inclination and will to learn foreign languages, acquiring Serbo-Croatian, English, Arabic and Ottoman languages. Ismail Rexhepi, as far as he worked in the Archive of Kosovo, exercised duties with professional and moral responsibility. He was the head of the archival material processing service, head of the warehouse service, head of the sector for the protection and registration of archival material, coordinator, etc. The circumstances created in 1989 in Kosovo, caused that in December 1990, Ismail Rexhepi was the first employee of the Archive of Kosovo to have his employment terminated violently.
