Tahir Dizdari, a prominent philologist, orientalist, was born in Shkodër. He completed his higher studies in political science at the University of Istanbul, Turkey 1922-1925. During the years 1925-1939 he served in the high state administration and was active as a publicist, critic and polemicist in various press bodies of the time. During the fascist occupation, he was exiled to Italy for his nationalist views (1939–1942). He was arrested on February 27, 1951 and held for 13 months in interrogation, in connection with the so-called “bomb in the Soviet Embassy”, but was released due to lack of evidence. He was taken out of his private house. In these conditions, he was forced to sleep in his bookstore, which he had opened in 1952. In 1965, he was “accepted” as an associate of the Institute of Linguistics, the sector of lexicology and lexicography. He passed away in Tirana, in 1972. In 1995, the President of the Republic awarded him the order “Naim Frashëri” of Class I, with the motivation “For outstanding contribution to the development of Albanian sciences”.
