Father Bernardin Palaj, martyr of the Catholic Church, died in the prison of Shkodra due to torture, before he was sentenced. He was born in Shkod\u00ebr, in 1894. He attended all the schools of the Minor Friars of Shkod\u00ebr, while he completed high school in Salzburg and studied philosophy and theology in Innsbruck, Austria. He was ordained a priest on August 2, 1918. He taught Albanian and Latin at the “Illyricum high school of Minor Friars\u201d. He worked in the parishes of Toplane, Pal\u00e7i, Shala, Bushkash, Plani and Rubik. He was arrested in Rubik and imprisoned in Shkod\u00ebr, on October 22, 1946.
