It is a structure with special status under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It was established in 1912, with the creation of the Provisional Government of Vlora (1912) and the Independent State of Albania, as part of the forces responsible for maintaining order, a special unit was designated for the security of state personalities, called the State Guard. The functions and organization of the guard were determined by law on 24.06.1928. On 12.02.1944, it was re-established as a subordinate unit for the security of the General Staff of the National Liberation Army.
