Kristo Luarasi was born in Luaras, Kolonj\u00eb, a figure of the National Renaissance. He contributed to the spread of writing and Albanian schools, as well as the development of Albanian publications and printing. He began his patriotic activities in the 1890s. During the years 1892\u20131894, he worked as a teacher of the Albanian language in one of the first Albanian schools, opened in Luaras through the efforts of Petro N. Luarasi. Pursued by Ottoman authorities and agents of the Greek Patriarchate, in 1894 he first migrated to Bucharest and then to Sofia, where he participated in the activities of the society “D\u00ebshira” (\u201cDesire\u201d). With the help of this society, together with Kost\u00eb J. Trebicka, they founded the printing press “Mbroth\u00ebsia<\/i>” in Sofia, where a variety of schoolbooks, works of Renaissance authors, and newspapers were printed. Kristo Luarasi was a propagandist and active participant in the Albanian people’s struggle for national liberation and the defense of the homeland’s territorial integrity. In 1907, he collaborated with Bajo and \u00c7er\u00e7iz Topulli in Sofia to prepare armed groups. In 1907, in his printing press “Mbroth\u00ebsia<\/i>“, he reprinted for the first time Sami Frash\u00ebri’s work “Albania: What It Was, What It Is, What It Will Be”, marking the author’s name (the first edition had been published without the author’s name). In the same year, he also published the work in Greek and Turkish translations. Through the newspaper “Liri e Shqiperis\u00eb” (\u201cFreedom of Albania\u201d) that he directed; he supported the major anti-Ottoman uprisings of 1911\u20131912. In November 1912, he worked in the Albanian exile colonies (Sofia, Bucharest) to prepare the Assembly of Vlor\u00eb and the Declaration of Independence. In the 1920s, settled in Tirana where he had also brought his printing press, he devoted himself to publishing activities. He passed away in 1934. (In the photo: Kristo Luarasi)<\/i><\/p>\n
