In Kanin\u00eb, near Vlor\u00eb, Ali Demi, a communist activist and participant in the National Liberation Anti-Fascist War, Hero of the People, was killed in combat against German Nazi forces. He was born in Filat, \u00c7am\u00ebria, in 1918. Due to his revolutionary activities, he was expelled from the high school in Gjirokast\u00ebr in 1936. In the Tirana high school, he was one of the organizers and participants of anti-fascist demonstrations in 1939. He became a member of the Communist Party of Albania from its early days. He was arrested and sentenced to death by a fascist court. He was one of the organizers of the escape from Tirana prison in 1943. He served as a battalion commissar in \u00c7ermenik\u00eb (1943), organizational secretary, and later political secretary of the Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Albania for Vlor\u00eb (1943).
