In Ferizaj, Kosovo, Dom Shtjef\u00ebn Kurti was born, a martyr of the Catholic Church. He studied at the Seminary of Shkodra, then in Innsbruck, Austria, and finally, in 1919, in Rome. He was ordained a priest in Rome on May 13, 1921. In 1930, he returned to Albania for the Diocese of Durr\u00ebs, now Tirana-Durr\u00ebs. In Kosovo, he served as a parish priest in Ferizaj and Novosel\u00eb. In Albania, he served as a parish priest in Zheja, Gurr\u00ebzi, and Tirana. He was arrested twice: the first time in Tirana on October 27, 1946, and was sentenced to 20 years in prison, of which he served 17 years in the notorious prison of Burrel; the second time he was arrested in Gurr\u00ebz on June 11, 1970.
