Adem Istrefi, writer, was born in Strelle t\u00eb Ep\u00ebrm of Peja. After finishing primary school, at 14, he escaped to Albania. After secondary education, he studied language and literature at the University of Tirana. For a long time, he worked in the editorial office of “Libri Shkollor” in Tirana and later as editor in “N\u00ebntori” magazine. He wrote poetry and prose, but also dealt with criticism and literary journalism. He has published poetry books: \u201cNet kosovare\u201d (\u201cKosovar nights\u201d) (1967), \u201cM\u00ebngjesi i s\u00eb nes\u00ebrmes\u201d (\u201cThe morning of tomorrow\u201d) (1969), \u201cDritaret e fjal\u00ebs\u201d (\u201cThe windows of the word\u201d) (1972), \u201cGjerdan lirie\u201d (\u201cNecklace of freedom) (1977), \u201cNj\u00eb zog midis meje dhe diellit\u201d (\u201cA bird between me and the sun\u201d) (1989), \u201cArti i vdekjes bukur\u201d (\u201cThe art of dying beautifully\u201d) (2007) etc.; then the novels: \u201cL\u00ebshoma hisen e diellit\u201d (1984), \u201cLemeria\u201d (\u201cThe fright\u201d) (1992), \u201cArgat\u00ebt e dreqit\u201d (“The devil’s cottars”) (1997), \u201cAskundia\u201d (2004); the books of stories: \u201cS\u2019mund t\u2019i lija pa fol\u00eb\u201d (\u201cI couldn’t leave them without speaking\u201d)<\/i> (1988) and \u201cNganj\u00ebher\u00eb i b\u00ebja me sy vdekjes\u201d (\u201cSometimes I winked to the death\u201d) (2004).
