Qazim Turdiu, a mathematician, professor, and Teacher of the People, passed away in Tirana. He was born in Tirana in 1917 and completed high school in his hometown. After completing his university studies in Montpellier (France), during which he was also honored with an award, he worked for several years as a high school teacher in Shkod\u00ebr and Tirana. After establishing the two-year Pedagogical Institute (1946), he was appointed a lecturer in it. After the establishment of the 4-year institutes of higher education (1951) and the University of Tirana, he worked in them for more than 30 years, first in the teaching departments and then mainly in the Faculty of Engineering. He was a lecturer for several key courses in the Department of Mathematics and Physics. Until the end of the 50s of the 20th century, he was engaged in the scientific and methodical qualification of young teachers. His adaptations “Gjeometria analitike” <\/i>(\u201cAnalytical geometry\u201d<\/i>) and “Algjebra”<\/i>(\u201cAlgebra<\/i>\u201d) for high school (1951), paved the way for the creation of original texts, such as “Trigonometrial plane”<\/i> (1961, co-authored), “Elemente t\u00eb analiz\u00ebs matematike”<\/i> (\u201cElements of mathematical analysis\u201d<\/i>) (1963), etc. Initiator of research in mathematics didactics, published as co-author the works “Matematika si shkenc\u00eb dhe si l\u00ebnd\u00eb shkollore I, II” <\/i>(\u201cMathematics as a science and as a school subject I, II\u201d<\/i>) (1972), “Metodika e algjebr\u00ebs I, II”<\/i> (\u201cAlgebra methodology I,II\u201d) <\/i>(1978), “Metodika e aritmetik\u00ebs” <\/i>(\u201cArithmetic methodology\u201d<\/i>) (1981) etc. He published articles and papers on special mathematics teaching problems in pedagogical scientific journals. He is the author of the book “Matematika n\u00eb shekuj”<\/i> (\u201cMathematics through the ages\u201d<\/i>) (1976), the first comprehensive work in the Albanian language on the historical development of mathematics.
