Edi Luarasi, Merited Artist, was a prominent Albanian actress known for her commanding stage presence, resonant voice, and dynamic energy. Born in Tirana, she began her career in the Estrada e Shtetit (State Estrada) as a singer alongside her sister in the duet “Motrat Mirdita” from 1954 to 1957. She graduated from the “Aleksand\u00ebr Moisiu” Acting Academy (1959\u20131963) and joined the National Theater, where she delivered memorable performances in roles such as Lena in Doktor Aleksi<\/i> by Ibrahim Uru\u00e7i, Cordelia in Shakespeare\u2019s King Lear<\/i> (1965), Cuca in Cuca e Maleve<\/i> by Loni Papa (1967), and Lea in Njollat e murrme<\/i> by Minush Jero (1969). Her role as the mother in Jero\u2019s drama T\u00eb pamposhturit<\/i> (1971) earned her a gold medal for best actress. However, after presenting the controversial 11th Song Festival on Radio Television (1972) and due to her husband, director Mihal Luarasi’s, imprisonment, Edi was reassigned as a seamstress in 1974 until her retirement. Following Albania\u2019s democratic changes, she returned to the stage in 1991 in a heartfelt performance as Claire Zachanassian in Friedrich D\u00fcrrenmatt’s The Visit<\/i>, which marked a successful comeback. During 1993\u20132003, she resided in Hungary with her husband before returning to perform roles, notably as the Mother in Korbi i Bardh\u00eb<\/i> by M. Luarasi. Edi also starred in cinema, capturing attention as Af\u00ebrdita in Ngadh\u00ebnjim mbi vdekjen<\/i> (1967). She passed away in 2021. (In photo: Edi Luarasi<\/i>)<\/p>\n
