Iljaz Fishta, an economist, historian, and professor, was born in Shkod\u00ebr. He completed high school in his hometown and pursued higher education, graduating in financial economics from the Economic-Financial Institute of Leningrad (1946\u20131950). He worked at the Ministry of Finance (1950\u20131953), in the apparatus of the Central Committee of the Party of Labor of Albania (1953\u20131966), as director of the study directorate in the State Planning Commission (1966\u20131969), director of the State Bank branch in Shkod\u00ebr (1969\u20131973), scientific secretary of the Institute of Economic Studies (1973\u20131979), and head of a sector at the Institute of History (1979\u20131991). Iljaz Fishta’s scientific work includes three main areas: economic theory, the state’s economic policy, and especially the economic history of Albania from the late 19th century through the 20th century. Fishta published several monographs, including \u201cSistemi monetar dhe i kreditit n\u00eb Shqip\u00ebri 1925\u20131944\u201d (\u201cThe Monetary and Credit System in Albania 1925\u20131944\u201d)<\/i> (1971), \u201cNd\u00ebrhyrja e kapitalit t\u00eb huaj dhe politika e saj skllav\u00ebruese p\u00ebr Shqip\u00ebrin\u00eb 1925\u20131931\u201d (\u201cForeign Capital Intervention and Its Enslaving Policy for Albania 1925\u20131931\u201d)<\/i> (1979), \u201cNd\u00ebrhyrja e kapitalit t\u00eb huaj dhe pasojat e saj skllav\u00ebruese p\u00ebr Shqip\u00ebrin\u00eb 1931\u20131936\u201d (\u201cForeign Capital Intervention and Its Enslaving Consequences for Albania 1931\u20131936<\/i>\u201d) (1989), and \u201cNd\u00ebrhyrja e kapitalit t\u00eb huaj dhe roli i saj p\u00ebr pushtimin e Shqip\u00ebris\u00eb 1936\u20131939\u201d (\u201cForeign Capital Intervention and Its Role in the Occupation of Albania 1936\u20131939\u201d)<\/i> (1999). He also co-authored works such as \u201cGjendja ekonomike e Shqip\u00ebris\u00eb n\u00eb vitet 1912\u20131944\u201d (\u201cThe Economic Situation of Albania in the Years 1912\u20131944\u201d)<\/i> (1983), \u201cProna private n\u00eb Shqip\u00ebri\u201d (\u201cPrivate Property in Albania\u201d)<\/i> (1996), and \u201cHistoria e Ekonomis\u00eb s\u00eb Shqip\u00ebris\u00eb 1944\u20131960\u201d (\u201cThe Economic History of Albania 1944\u20131960<\/i>\u201d) (2004), among others. Iljaz Fishta served as deputy editor-in-chief for journals such as People’s Economy<\/i>, Economic Problems<\/i>, and Historical Studies<\/i>. He was awarded the Republic’s Third Class Prize and the “Master of Great Work” order. He passed away in 2005.<\/p>\n
