Dhimit\u00ebr Xhuvani, a writer, was born in Pogradec. He completed medical technical studies and worked as a medical assistant for several years, during which he began his first literary endeavors. He graduated in Albanian language and literature from the University of Tirana (1959) and pursued additional studies at the Maxim Gorky Institute of World Literature in Moscow (1959\u20131960). He worked in various literary publications before becoming a freelance writer. His first collection of stories, \u201cKambana e fundit\u201d (\u201cThe Last Bell\u201d) (1960), attracted readers with its psychological depth and unique narrative style. His first novel, \u201cTuneli\u201d (\u201cThe Tunnel\u201d) (1966), faced official criticism and was withdrawn from circulation as it was considered a \u201cdark portrayal\u201d of reality. Consequently, Xhuvani was sent to work on construction sites to “get to know life.” Four years later, he published \u201cP\u00ebrs\u00ebri n\u00eb k\u00ebmb\u00eb\u201d (\u201cBack on His Feet\u201d) (1970), which centers on a protagonist who overcomes personal misfortune through work. The novel continued to be Xhuvani’s preferred genre, with his narratives characterized by simple, flowing style, impactful and unexpected plots, and inner monologues. He also wrote screenplays, including for the films \u201cM\u00ebngjese lufte\u201d (\u201cWar Mornings\u201d) (1971) and \u201cI dashur armik\u201d (\u201cDear Enemy\u201d) (2003). He received the Republic’s Third Class Prize and passed away in Tirana in 2009.<\/p>\n
