Kolec Topalli passed away, a linguist, professor, and People\u2019s Teacher. Born in Shkod\u00ebr in 1938, he completed high school in his hometown. He pursued higher studies at the Higher Pedagogical Institute in Shkod\u00ebr and graduated in the Albanian language and literature from the University of Tirana (1964). He worked as a teacher in Kuk\u00ebs, Lezh\u00eb, Gramsh, and Kruj\u00eb. He served as the General Secretary of the President of the Republic (1992\u20131997), a research scientist at the Institute of Linguistics and Literature (1997\u20132006), and as a advisor at the Albanian Embassy in Rome (2006\u20132007). During his years in education, he engaged in linguistic studies, preparing two dissertations (1986, 1991) focusing mainly on issues of historical phonetics in Albanian.He authored monographs such as: \u201cTheksi n\u00eb gjuh\u00ebn shqipe\u201d (\u201cAccent in the Albanian Language\u201d)<\/i> (1995), \u201cP\u00ebr historin\u00eb e hundor\u00ebsis\u00eb s\u00eb zanoreve n\u00eb gjuh\u00ebn shqipe\u201d (\u201cOn the History of Nasalization of Vowels in Albanian<\/i>\u201d) (1996), \u201cZhvillimi historik i diftongjeve t\u00eb shqipes\u201d (\u201cThe Historical Development of Diphthongs in Albanian\u201d)<\/i> (1998), \u201cShnd\u00ebrrime historike n\u00eb sistemin zanor t\u00eb gjuh\u00ebs shqipe\u201d (\u201cHistorical Changes in the Vowel System of Albanian<\/i>\u201d) (2000), \u201cSonantet e gjuh\u00ebs shqipe\u201d (\u201cSonants in the Albanian Language\u201d)<\/i> (2001), \u201cMbylltoret e gjuh\u00ebs shqipe\u201d (\u201cStops in the Albanian Language\u201d)<\/i> (2002), \u201cF\u00ebrkimoret e afrikatet e gjuh\u00ebs shqipe\u201d (\u201cFricatives and Affricates in the Albanian Language\u201d)<\/i> (2003), \u201cFonetika historike e gjuh\u00ebs shqipe\u201d (\u201cPhonetic Phenomena of the Albanian Consonant System\u201d)<\/i> (2004), Historical Phonetics of the Albanian Language<\/i> (2005), Research on the History of Accent in Albanian<\/i> (Cosenza, 2007), and The <\/i>\u201cEvolucioni historik i p\u00ebremrave t\u00eb shqipes\u201d (\u201cHistorical Evolution of Albanian Pronouns<\/i>\u201d)(2008). These works meticulously reviewed previous research, providing original contributions to clarifying many issues. Topalli also published numerous articles in scientific journals abroad.
