Abdyl <\/span>F<\/span>ra<\/span>shëri<\/span> was born in the village of <\/span>F<\/span>ra<\/span>shër<\/span>, the capital of the <\/span>Dangël<\/span>li<\/span>a<\/span> province in <\/span>Përmet<\/span>, and was a prominent po<\/span>li<\/span>tician, diplo<\/span>ma<\/span>t, and creator of the Albanian League of <\/span>Prizren<\/span>. He was the son of Ha<\/span>li<\/span>d <\/span>F<\/span>ra<\/span>shëri<\/span> and the older brother of Naim and <\/span>Sami <\/span>F<\/span>ra<\/span>shëri<\/span>. <\/span>Abdyl spent his childhood and early youth in his native village until the age of 18, when he moved to Ioannina.<\/span> He was fluent in Turkish, Greek, and French <\/span>and also<\/span> had knowledge of A<\/span>ra<\/span>bic and Persian. He <\/span>emerged<\/span> as a po<\/span>li<\/span>tical figure during<\/span> the Eastern Crisis in 1877 when he became the <\/span>chair<\/span>ma<\/span>n<\/span> of the Albanian Committee of Ioannina, formed that same year. He d<\/span>ra<\/span>fted a project for the Decla<\/span>ra<\/span>tion of Independence of Albania, advocating for an anti-<\/span>Otto<\/span>ma<\/span>n <\/span>li<\/span>be<\/span>ra<\/span>tion uprising. In July and Decem<\/span>ber 1877, he held discussions with representatives of Greece <\/span>regarding<\/span> a possible al<\/span>li<\/span>ance<\/span>, but these talks failed as Athens did not accept the notion of an independent Albania within its ethnic borders. In late 1877, as a deputy from Ioannina in the secon<\/span>d Otto<\/span>ma<\/span>n par<\/span>li<\/span>ament, he was elected <\/span>chair<\/span>ma<\/span>n<\/span> of the Cent<\/span>ra<\/span>l Committee for the Protection of the Rights of the Albanian Nationa<\/span>li<\/span>ty, <\/span>estab<\/span>li<\/span>shed<\/span> in Istanbul. During his tenure, he contributed significantly to developing the po<\/span>li<\/span>tical platform adopted by th<\/span>e national movement after Russia’s victory over the Otto<\/span>ma<\/span>n Empire and the signing of the Treaty of Saint Stephen in 1878. <\/span>F<\/span>ra<\/span>shëri<\/span> be<\/span>li<\/span>eved that, <\/span>in <\/span>li<\/span>ght of<\/span> Russia’s expansionist tendencies, the most <\/span>viable<\/span> solution was the estab<\/span>li<\/span>shment of an autonomous<\/span> Albanian state under the Sultan’s sovereignty. He envisioned creating a united Albanian vilayet within the Otto<\/span>ma<\/span>n Empire as a t<\/span>ra<\/span>nsitional phase towards full independence. <\/span>Abdyl <\/span>F<\/span>ra<\/span>shëri<\/span> was an active participant in founding the Albanian League of <\/span>Prizre<\/span>n<\/span> in 1878 and was recognized as its leader, organizer, and diplo<\/span>ma<\/span>t. He was influential in the provinces of Ioannina and Kosovo, <\/span>participating<\/span> in <\/span>nearly all<\/span> the <\/span>ma<\/span>jor assemb<\/span>li<\/span>es organized by the Gene<\/span>ra<\/span>l Council of the Albanian League or its interprovincial<\/span> committees. He led the autonomist wing of the movement and was elected <\/span>chair<\/span>ma<\/span>n<\/span> of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the founding assembly of the League. He <\/span>represented<\/span> Tuscany at the First Assembly of Dib<\/span>ra<\/span> on November 1, 1878, where they officially reque<\/span>sted the High Gate to create a united autonomous vilayet of Albania. <\/span>F<\/span>ra<\/span>shëri<\/span> was the <\/span>ma<\/span>in organizer of the Assembly of Preveza in January 1879, which successfully prevented the annexation of Cameria by Greece. In spring 1879, alongside Mehmet Vrioni, he o<\/span>rganized a diplo<\/span>ma<\/span>tic campaign in the capitals of the Great Powers. He also headed the National Assembly of <\/span>Gjirokast<\/span>ra<\/span> in 1880, advocating for the estab<\/span>li<\/span>shment of an autonomous Albanian state through armed movement. He became a member of the provisional <\/span>government formed in <\/span>Prizren<\/span> in early 1881, but after the suppression of the League, he was arrested and sentenced to death by a special Otto<\/span>ma<\/span>n court, a sentence later commuted to <\/span>li<\/span>fe imprisonment. <\/span>Abdyl <\/span>F<\/span>ra<\/span>shëri<\/span> passed away in Istanbul in 1892, and his <\/span>re<\/span>ma<\/span>ins were brought to Ti<\/span>ra<\/span>na in 1978. <\/span><\/span>(Photo: <\/em><\/span>Abdyl <\/span>F<\/span>ra<\/span>shëri<\/span><\/em>)<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
