Sherif <\/span>Merdani<\/span>, a singer, passed away in Ti<\/span>ra<\/span>na.<\/span> Born in Korçë in 1940, he began his artistic career as a singer while <\/span>participating<\/span> in activities at the Pedagogical School in Korçë from 1953 to 1957. He completed his higher studies at the <\/span>University of Ti<\/span>ra<\/span>na in the history-geog<\/span>ra<\/span>phy department from 1963 to 1967, where he was also actively involved in singing. <\/span>Merdani<\/span> participated in the 8th Song Festival on Albanian <\/span>Ra<\/span>dio Television with the song “<\/span>Shokë<\/span> të<\/span> pandarë<\/span>” (“Insepa<\/span>ra<\/span>ble Friends”) <\/span>in 1969, followed by the 9th Festival with “Mes <\/span>jush<\/span>” (“Amongst You”) in 1970, and he won first prize at the 10th Festival with “<\/span>Kënga<\/span> e <\/span>nënës<\/span>” (“Mother’s Song”) in 1971, later competing in the 11th Festival with the song “Duart e <\/span>tua<\/span>” (“Your Hands”) in 19<\/span>72. However, after 1972, he faced a ban on performing on stage and was <\/span>sentenced, serving time until his release in 1989. Following his release, he worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1992 onward, serving as a cultu<\/span>ra<\/span>l attaché in Italy (1992–199<\/span>5) and Ro<\/span>ma<\/span>nia (1998–2001). <\/span>Merdani<\/span> also <\/span>participated<\/span> in various festivals and activities, including the Spring Festival with the song “Se <\/span>kënduam<\/span> Let it be” in 1992, as well as that year’s national festival on Albanian <\/span>Ra<\/span>dio Television with “Mother’s Symp<\/span>hony.” (“<\/span>Simpfonia<\/span> e <\/span>nënës<\/span>”). <\/span><\/span>(In the photo: <\/em><\/span>Sherif <\/span>Merdani<\/span><\/em>)<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
