Sevasti Dako <\/span>Qiriazi<\/span>, an activist of the National Movement and a champion for the e<\/span>ma<\/span>ncipation of Albanian women, passed away in Ti<\/span>ra<\/span>na. Born in 1871 into the prominent <\/span>Qiriazi<\/span> family in <\/span>Ma<\/span>nastir<\/span>, she completed her secondary education in Eng<\/span>li<\/span>sh at the Bib<\/span>le Society school in her hometown. After studying at the American Women’s College in Istanbul from 1888 to 1891, she returned to <\/span>Korça<\/span> and, with the <\/span>assistance<\/span> of her brother <\/span>Gje<\/span>ra<\/span>sim<\/span>, opened the first national school for girls, “<\/span>Shkolla<\/span> Shqipe e <\/span>Vashave<\/span>” <\/span>(“Albanian School for Girls”), in 1891. <\/span>Qiriazi<\/span> participated in the Educational Congress of Elbasan in 1909 and prepared a series of educational texts covering subjects such as Albanian g<\/span>ra<\/span>m<\/span>ma<\/span>r, world history, and the history of Albania. She collabo<\/span>ra<\/span>ted w<\/span>ith the <\/span>albanologist<\/span> Edith Durham to promote the recognition of independent Albania in the international arena in 1913. Alongside her sister <\/span>Pa<\/span>ra<\/span>shqevi<\/span>, she contributed to the pub<\/span>li<\/span>cation of the <\/span>ma<\/span>gazine “Yl<\/span>li<\/span> i<\/span> Mëngjezit<\/span>” (“Morning Star”). After returning<\/span> to her homeland in 1921, she, together with her husband Kristo Dako and her sister, dedicated herself to the “Kyrias” educational institute they <\/span>estab<\/span>li<\/span>shed<\/span> in Ti<\/span>ra<\/span>na and <\/span>Kamëz<\/span>. For her contributions, Sevasti <\/span>Qiriazi<\/span> was honored with seve<\/span>ra<\/span>l deco<\/span>ra<\/span>tions, <\/span>including the “Order of <\/span>Skenderbeu<\/span>,” the “Order for Patriotic Activity,” and the “Order of Freedom.” <\/span><\/span>(In the photo: <\/em><\/span>Sevasti Dako <\/span>Qiriazi<\/span><\/em>)<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
