Herman Bernstein<\/span>, a diplomat, journa<\/span>li<\/span>st, nove<\/span>li<\/span>st, and t<\/span>ra<\/span>nslator, passed away in the United States. He served as the American ambassador to Albania from 1930 to 1933, a period during which he conducted studies that pr<\/span>ovided the American Department of State with a new perspective on Albania. Born in <\/span>Li<\/span>thuania to a Jewish family that emig<\/span>ra<\/span>ted to America around 1890, Bernstein initially worked as a t<\/span>ra<\/span>nslator from Russian, t<\/span>ra<\/span>nslating works of various Russian authors for<\/span> contempo<\/span>ra<\/span>ry newspapers. He later became the founder of two prominent newspapers serving the Jewish community. As a correspondent, Bernstein immersed himself in the culture and history of the many countries he visited, particularly during World War I. He <\/span>participated<\/span> in the Peace Conference in Paris in 1919, an experience that brought him closer to <\/span>diplomacy in <\/span>a short time<\/span>.
