Ahmet Gashi, activist of the national movement and education, geographer and historian, Teacher of the People, was born in Pristina. He received his first lessons in his hometown. He graduated in history and geography <\/span>from<\/span> Istanbul University (1910). Since the establishment of the education department in the Provisional Government of Vlora, he was appointed a professor in the “Normal” of Elbasan, where he was also the director in the years 1927-1933. He <\/span>participated<\/span> as a delegate in the educational congresses of 1920 and 1922, while in the Educational Congress of Tirana (1924) he was elected its <\/span>chairman<\/span>. He also taught at the “Nana <\/span>Mbretneshë<\/span>” <\/span>(“<\/span><\/span>Queen Mother<\/span><\/span>”) <\/span>female institute in Tirana (1933-1941) and was the director of the “Sami <\/span>Frashëri<\/span>” <\/span>high school<\/span> in Prishtina (1944). In the years 1945-1964, he worked as a geography teacher in Tirana. He is known as the author of a series of <\/span>schoolworks<\/span> in the field of <\/span>geography. He published the text “<\/span>Gjeografia<\/span> e <\/span>Shqipnisë<\/span>“<\/span> (“<\/span><\/span>Geography of Albania<\/span><\/span>”)<\/span> for secondary schools (1933, reprinted in 1937 under the title “<\/span><\/span>Shqipnia<\/span><\/span>“) and “<\/span><\/span>Gjeografia e përgjithshme”<\/span> (“<\/span><\/span>General<\/span> Geography<\/span><\/span>”)<\/span> për shkollat e mesme<\/span><\/span> (1935). Compiled and published several geographical and historical maps. He is the first Albanian geographer accepted as a member of the American Geographical Society <\/span>(The<\/span><\/span> National Geographic Society, Washington DC) <\/span><\/span>in 1936.
