Rifat Kukaj, writer, literary translator, passed away in Ulcinj. He was born in the village of <\/span>Terstenik<\/span> in <\/span>Drenas<\/span> (Kosovo), in 1938. He attended primary school in his hometown, and “Norma<\/span>l<\/span>“<\/span> high school<\/span> in Pristina. He worked as a teacher and school director in his native village, then a journalist and editor in the children’s programs of Radio Prishtina, while the longest working time was the editor of children’s publications in the “<\/span>Rilindja<\/span>” editorial office. <\/span>He<\/span> belongs to the group of writers who <\/span>brought and<\/span> advanced <\/span>modern<\/span> expression in children’s literature, as well as carried the burden of developing this literature in Kosovo. The number of his works is <\/span>very <\/span>large<\/span>,<\/span> and they are of all literary genres: poems, stories, novels, illustrations, humoresques, radio dramas, sketches, etc. A warm expression stands out, which comes <\/span>as a result of<\/span> deep inspiration and <\/span>is presented as<\/span> communicative with the reader, especially with children. He is <\/span>the<\/span> writer with the largest number of children’s novels, including: “Bardhi e <\/span>Mirushja<\/span>“<\/span> (“Bardhi and <\/span>Mirushja<\/span>”)<\/span> (1968), “<\/span><\/span>Lepuri me pesë këmbë<\/span><\/span>“<\/span> (“The rabbit with five feet”)<\/span> (1971), “<\/span><\/span>Zogu i bardhë<\/span><\/span>“<\/span> (“The white bird”)<\/span> (1989), etc. He also published <\/span>many<\/span> collections of stories and collections of poems. He also published illustrations for children and was involved in literary translations, especially from the Slovenian language. He was awarded <\/span>numerous<\/span> prizes and recogni<\/span>zed<\/span> for his literary creativity.
